וַיַּ֨רְא יוֹסֵ֣ף אִתָּם֮ אֶת־בִּנְיָמִין֒ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לַֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־בֵּית֔וֹ הָבֵ֥א אֶת־הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים הַבָּ֑יְתָה וּטְבֹ֤חַ טֶ֙בַח֙ וְהָכֵ֔ן כִּ֥י אִתִּ֛י יֹאכְל֥וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים בַּֽצׇּהֳרָֽיִם׃
When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to his house steward, “Take those men into the house; slaughter and prepare an animal, for at noon they will dine—with me.”
Torah Temimah points to Chullin 85a.
וטבוח טבח והכן. השוחט ונמצאת טריפה… פטור מכסוי הדם, מאי טעמא, שחיטה שאינה ראויה לא שמה שחיטה, דגמרינן מטבוח טבח והכן, מה התם שחיטה ראויה אף כאן בעינן שחיטה ראויה.
English of Core Text: “And slay and prepare…” One who slaughters and the animal is found to be treifah… is exempt from covering the blood. Why? Because a slaughter that is not fit is not called slaughter; we learn this from “slay and prepare” — just as there the slaughter had to be fit [for eating], so here we require a fit slaughter.
On the daf / in context: The Gemara derives the requirement that shechitah be “ra’uyah” (fit) for the obligation of kisuy ha-dam from Yosef’s instruction that the slaughter be prepared for consumption.
