וְיוֹסֵ֗ף ה֚וּא הַשַּׁלִּ֣יט עַל־הָאָ֔רֶץ ה֥וּא הַמַּשְׁבִּ֖יר לְכׇל־עַ֣ם הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אֲחֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף וַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ־ל֥וֹ אַפַּ֖יִם אָֽרְצָה׃
Now Joseph was the vizier of the land; it was he who dispensed rations to all the people of the land. And Joseph’s brothers came and bowed low to him, with their faces to the ground.
Torah Temimah points to Sanhedrin 92a.
הוא המשביר. אמר רבא אמר רב ששת, כל שאינו מונע הלכה מפי תלמיד, זוכה לברכות כיוסף, שנאמר וברכה לראש משביר, ואין משביר אלא יוסף, שנאמר ויוסף הוא המשביר לכל עם הארץ.
English of Core Text: “He was the one who sold grain…” Rava said in the name of Rav Sheshet: Anyone who does not withhold halachah from the mouth of a student merits the blessings of Yosef, as it is said, “And a blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth grain,” and “seller of grain” refers only to Yosef, as it is said, “And Yosef was the one who sold grain to all the people of the land.”
On the daf / in context: The Gemara equates the physical provision of grain by Yosef with the spiritual provision of Torah by a teacher who freely shares halachah with students.
Type of Learning: Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13; the sugya transfers the blessing associated with Yosef the provider to the teacher who provides Torah.
What Is Learned: One who freely teaches halachah to a student, withholding nothing, receives the same blessing that rested upon Yosef when he provided grain to the hungry world.
