Classical midrash on the symbols of authority transferred to Yosef.

Sefaria · Bereshit Rabbah 90

Core Text of Chazal

English of Core Text: The signet ring… garments of fine linen… the gold chain. Three symbols of authority passed to Yosef.

On the daf / in context: The midrash treats the transfer of the ring (power to seal), the linen garments (royal dignity), and the gold chain (public honor) as the visible investiture that makes Yosef’s new status irreversible.

Type of Learning: Derash on the verse (classic midrash) — not a formal named middah of the 13.

What Is Learned: Authority is conferred through concrete, public symbols; once the ring, the garments, and the chain are given, Yosef’s elevation is complete and visible to all Egypt.
