וַיֹּ֤אמֶר פַּרְעֹה֙ אֶל־יוֹסֵ֔ף אַחֲרֵ֨י הוֹדִ֧יעַ אֱלֹהִ֛ים אוֹתְךָ֖ אֶת־כׇּל־זֹ֑את אֵין־נָב֥וֹן וְחָכָ֖ם כָּמֽוֹךָ׃
And Pharaoh said unto Yosef, “Forasmuch as God hath shown thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou.”
Bereshit Rabbah 89:6. The Midrash contrasts Pharaoh’s Egyptian wise men with Yosef and concludes with Pharaoh’s recognition that there was no wise and understanding person like Yosef.
The Midrash explains that Yosef was deliberately brought after the Egyptian wise men had failed, so that his success would receive its proper recognition. It connects Pharaoh’s final praise of Yosef with that reversal.
What Is Learned: Yosef’s wisdom is publicly established only after the failure of the preceding interpreters; the Midrash presents this as part of the divine ordering of the episode.
