וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ל֣וֹ יַעֲקֹ֗ב מַקַּ֥ל לִבְנֶ֛ה לַ֖ח וְל֣וּז וְעֶרְמ֑וֹן וַיְפַצֵּ֤ל בָּהֵן֙ פְּצָל֣וֹת לְבָנ֔וֹת מַחְשֹׂף֙ הַלָּבָ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־הַמַּקְלֽוֹת׃

And Yaakov took for himself fresh rods of poplar and of almond and of plane, and peeled white streaks in them, exposing the white that was on the rods.

מַקַּל לִבְנֶה – עֵץ הוּא וּשְׁמוֹ לִבְנֶה… לַח – כְּשֶׁהוּא רָטֹב. לוּז – עֵץ שֶׁגְּדֵלִין בּוֹ אֱגוֹזִים דַּקִּים.

English: “Rod of poplar” — a tree called livneh… “fresh” — while still moist. “Almond” — a tree on which small nuts grow.

On the daf / in context: Rashi identifies the three species and stresses that the rods were taken while still moist so that the white under-bark would show clearly when peeled.
