And Yaakov went out from Be’er Sheva and went toward Charan.
Classical sources beyond the TT-numbered main ring: Rashi on Bereishis 28:10 (citing Chazal).
Lemma: ויצא יעקב.
English: “And Yaakov went out from Be’er Sheva.” It would have been sufficient to write only “And Yaakov went to Charan.” Why does it say “and he went out”? Rather, it teaches that the departure of a righteous person from a place makes an impression.
Derash on the verse (Rashi citing Chazal) — not a formal named middah of the 13. Superfluous language yields a lesson about the effect of the righteous on their surroundings.
When a tzaddik leaves a place, the departure itself leaves a noticeable mark on that place.
