Hashem, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from my native land, who spoke to me and who swore to me, saying, ‘To your offspring I will give this land’—He will send His angel before you, and you will get a wife for my son from there.

Lemma / focus: ה' אלהי השמים.
English: Here he did not say “and the God of the earth,” though above he did swear by both. He said to him: Now He is the God of heaven and the God of the earth, for I have already made Him known to the creatures; but when He took me from my father’s house He was the God of heaven and not yet the God of the earth, for the inhabitants of the world did not yet recognize Him and His name was not yet current in the land.
Derash on the verse (Rashi) — not a formal named middah of the 13: the omission of “God of the earth” in this formulation is read against the earlier oath formula.
When Avraham left his father’s house, God was known as God of heaven but not yet of the earth; through Avraham’s work His name became known on earth as well.
