For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him to keep the way of Hashem by doing righteousness and justice, so that Hashem may bring upon Avraham that which He has spoken concerning him.
English: “His children and his household…” “His children” for justice, “his household” for righteousness—because women are not commanded concerning [the formal laws of] judgment.
On the daf / in context: The dual phrasing is partitioned: sons are trained in the judicial system, while the household (women) is trained in acts of charity.
Type of Learning
Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13. The two objects of the verb receive distinct assignments.
What Is Learned
Avraham was to train his sons in justice and his household in righteousness; women are not obligated in the formal laws of din.
