“Please do not pass by.” What is the meaning of “please do not pass by”? He saw the Holy One, blessed be He, standing at the doorway; when the Holy One saw that Avraham was binding and unbinding [bandages], He said, “It is not proper to stand here,” and that is the meaning of “please do not pass by your servant.”
Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13. The request is understood as spoken to Hashem who was about to withdraw.
Avraham noticed Hashem standing at the doorway while he tended his circumcision wound and asked Him not to leave while he finished binding it.
