He was a mighty hunter before Hashem; therefore it is said: “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before Hashem.”

English: “A mighty hunter” — he captured people’s minds with his speech and led them to rebel against the Omnipresent. “Before Hashem” — he intended to provoke Him openly. “Therefore it is said” — of anyone who acts brazenly, knows his Master, and intends to rebel against Him, it is said: “This is like Nimrod, a mighty hunter.”

Nimrod’s distinctive “hunting” was the capture of human allegiance for deliberate rebellion against God.
