Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: With the measure that a person measures, they measure to him. Moshe merited [to care for] the bones of Yosef… he likewise merited that the Omnipresent Himself occupied Himself with him, as it is said “And He buried him.”

Type of Learning

A measure-for-measure correspondence between Moshe’s care for Yosef and Hashem’s care for Moshe.

What Chazal Learned

Because Moshe, the greatest of Israel, personally took responsibility for the bones of Yosef, Hashem Himself performed the burial of Moshe. No human being greater than Moshe remained to perform the duty; therefore the Holy One Himself undertook it.
