TT #773 · Parashas Ki Seitzei · Seventh Aliyah · Passuk 25:14
You shall not have in your house two kinds of measures, a large and a small.
Torah Temimah points to Bava Batra 89a.
TT lemma:
English: Our Rabbis taught: “You shall not have” — this teaches that supervisors are appointed over measures, but supervisors are not appointed over market prices.
On the daf / in context: The community is obligated to oversee the honesty of weights and measures, but not to fix prices in the same way.
Derash on the communal obligation to supervise measures.
The court must appoint inspectors for weights and measures; it need not appoint inspectors for market prices.
