When brothers dwell together and one of them dies and has no son, the wife of the dead shall not be outside to a strange man; her husband’s brother shall come upon her and take her to himself as a wife and perform the duty of a husband’s brother for her.

TT lemma: אֵשֶׁת הַמֵּת.
אֵשֶׁת הַמֵּת – פְּרָט לְאֵשֶׁת שׁוֹטֶה וְקָטָן שֶׁאֵין לָהֶם אִישׁוּת כְּלָל.
English: “The wife of the dead” — excluding the wife of a deaf-mute or a minor, who have no full marital status.
On the daf / in context: Only a woman who was fully married to a competent husband falls under the laws of yibbum and chalitzah.
Mi’ut excluding defective marriages.
The widow of a minor or of a deaf-mute is not subject to yibbum or chalitzah.
