Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
יָקוּם דָּבָר – וְלֹא שֶׁיָּקוּם חֲצִי דָּבָר.

English: ‘A matter shall be established’ – and not that half a matter shall be established.

On the daf / in context: Witnesses must testify to a complete event, not fragmented pieces that the court then combines.

Type of Learning

Derash requiring complete testimony (Bavli) — each pair must establish a whole matter.

What Is Learned

Testimony must establish a complete matter; the court does not piece together half-testimonies from different pairs into a single whole.
