The kohanim, the Leviim, the entire tribe of Levi, shall have no portion or inheritance with Yisrael; they shall eat the fire-offerings of the Eternal and His inheritance.
Torah Temimah points to Sifrei Devarim 163.
TT lemma: לֹא יִהְיֶה לַכֹּהֲנִים הַלְוִיִּם.
English: ‘The kohanim, the Leviim, the entire tribe of Levi shall have no portion or inheritance with Yisrael’ – to teach that they have no share in the Land.
Derash on the exclusion from inheritance (Sifrei) — the verse removes the tribe of Levi from the ordinary division of the Land.
The tribe of Levi receives no territorial portion in Eretz Yisrael. Their livelihood is tied to the service of Hashem rather than to land ownership.
