you shall take the man or the woman who did that wicked thing out to the public place, and you shall stone them, that man or woman, to death.—

English: “To your gates” — your gates, and not the gate of non-Jews.
When the majority of the city’s population is non-Jewish, the execution is not carried out in the open public square of that city but at the entrance of the court, so as not to create a spectacle among non-Jews.
Derash on the verse (Bavli / Sifrei) — not a formal named middah of the 13. The possessive “your” is taken to limit the location to a Jewish public space.
The public stoning takes place at a Jewish gate; in a city whose majority is non-Jewish the procedure is modified so that the execution is not performed as a public spectacle among non-Jews.
