Core Text

English: "And you shall offer the Pesach" — that all its procedures be for the sake of the Pesach; from here we learn that a Pesach slaughtered not for its own sake is invalid.

On the daf / in context: Every essential act of the Pesach offering (slaughter, receiving, carrying, sprinkling) must be performed with the specific intention of the Pesach.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Pesachim) — improper intention invalidates the Pesach.

What Is Learned

A Pesach offering that is slaughtered (or otherwise processed) without the proper intention for the sake of the Pesach is invalid.
