The Complete Passuk

You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him, because for this thing Hashem your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you put your hand to.

Core Text

English: "You shall give him" — between you and him; from here they said that there was a Chamber of Secrets in the Temple.

On the daf / in context: The ideal form of charity is anonymous, so that neither donor nor recipient is publicly identified.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Shekalim) — the ideal of secret charity.

What Is Learned

Charity is best given privately; the Temple maintained a Chamber of Secrets for this purpose.
