For Hashem your God will bless you as He has spoken to you; you will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow; and you will rule over many nations, but they will not rule over you.

English: “You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow” — this is the blessing of independence; you will rule over nations and they will not rule over you.
Derash on the promise of independence (Sifrei) — the blessing is both economic and political.
Obedience brings the blessing of being a lender rather than a borrower and of ruling rather than being ruled.
