And you shall eat before Hashem your God, in the place that He will choose to make His Name dwell there, the tithe of your grain, of your wine and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock, in order that you may learn to fear Hashem your God all the days.
English: "Tithe and firstborn" — It was taught: Rabbi Akiva says: "Tithe and firstborn" — he compared the firstborn to the tithe; just as the grain tithe comes only from the Land, so a firstborn is brought to Yerushalayim for offering only from the Land.
On the daf / in context: Although the firstborn of a pure animal is obligatory both in the Land and outside it, one may not bring a firstborn from outside the Land to the Temple; it is treated as ordinary meat and eaten after it develops a blemish.
