וְהָרָאָה֙ וְאֶת־הָ֣אַיָּ֔ה וְהַדַּיָּ֖ה לְמִינָֽהּ׃

the kite and the falcon of every variety.

Core Text

וְהָרָאָה וְאֶת הָאַיָּה וְהַדַּיָּה לְמִינָהּ — לְרַבּוֹת אֶת כָּל מִינֵי הָאַיָּה.

English: “the kite and the falcon of every variety” — this comes to include all species of the ayyah.

On the daf / in context: The phrase “le-minah” expands the prohibition beyond the single named bird to every member of its family or type.

Derash on the inclusive phrase “le-minah” (Chullin) — the prohibition covers the entire genus.

All varieties of the ayyah (kite/falcon group) are forbidden; the Torah’s “of its kind” language brings the whole family under the lav.
