Core Text

English: “You are children” — Beloved are Israel, for they are called children to the Omnipresent; an extra measure of love is made known to them in that they are called children to Him.

On the daf / in context: Being called “children” is itself an expression of special divine affection that is openly declared.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Avos) — the special love implied by the title “children.”

What Is Learned

Israel are beloved in that they are called children of Hashem, and an extra measure of love is shown by the public declaration of that title.
