Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
בְּרָכָה וּקְלָלָה — בְּרָכָה שֶׁתִּשְׁמְעוּ, קְלָלָה שֶׁלֹּא תִּשְׁמְעוּ.

English: “Blessing and curse” — blessing, that you hearken; curse, that you do not hearken.

On the daf / in context: Sifrei reads the blessing and the curse as the direct consequence of listening or refusing to listen, not as external rewards detached from the act itself.

Type of Learning

Derash on the structure of the verse (Sifrei) — the blessing is defined as the hearkening itself.

What Is Learned

The blessing is not merely a later reward; hearkening to the commandments is itself the blessing.
