Parashas Eikev · Passuk 11:19
and teach them to your children—reciting them when you stay at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up;
Torah Temimah unit 10 of 10 on this passuk.
TT lemma: לדבר בם (unit 10 of 10).
English: When a child begins to speak, his father should speak with him in the holy tongue and teach him Torah. If he does not speak with him in the holy tongue and does not teach him Torah, it is as though he buries him, as it says, “And you shall teach them to your sons, to speak of them.” If you teach your sons, your days and your sons’ days will be lengthened; if not, your days will be shortened.
Derash on the verse (Bavli sugya) — not a formal named middah of the 13
The Gemara uses this passuk in a sugya (proof, illustration, or dispute). Named as one of R' Yishmael’s 13 or R' Eliezer’s 32 only when that move is explicit.
The daily rhythm of Shema is planted in this verse’s “lie down” and “rise.”
