כאשר ייסר וגו'. תניא, ר' שמעון בן יוחאי אומר, כתיב כאשר ייסר איש את בנו ה' אלהיך מיסרך וסמיך ליה כי ה' אלהיך מביאך אל ארץ טובה, מלמד שלא נתנה א"י לישראל אלא ע"י יסורים
English: It was taught: R’ Shimon ben Yochai says: “As a man disciplines his son, Hashem your God disciplines you,” and next to it, “For Hashem your God is bringing you into a good land.” This teaches that Eretz Yisrael was given to Israel only through suffering.
