Core Text of Chazal / Classic Source

Core Text

English: Rashi explains that Moshe waited to rebuke Israel until after Sihon and Og had been defeated and their land given to Israel, so the people could not claim that Moshe had done nothing for them or lacked the power to bring them into the land.

On the source / in context: Rashi on Deuteronomy 1:4:1 (Sifrei Devarim 3:2) is the identified classical source for this EXTRA page. The text and learning note below are tied to that source rather than to an invented generic summary.

What Is Learned

Effective rebuke is timed so that its purpose cannot be dismissed as hostility or lack of demonstrated care.
