ויהי בארבעים שנה בעשתי עשר חדש — מדקאי באב וקרא ליה שנת ארבעים, וקאי בשבט וקרא ליה שנת ארבעים, מכלל דראש השנה לאו תשרי הוא.

English: “And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month” — since the Torah calls both the month of Av and the following Shevat part of the fortieth year, the New Year for this count cannot be Tishrei.
