וּמִקְנֶה רַב הָיָה לִבְנֵי רְאוּבֵן וְלִבְנֵי גָד — חֲלָקָה: שָׁלֹשׁ מַתָּנוֹת נִבְרְאוּ בָּעוֹלָם. אִם זָכָה אָדָם בְּאַחַת מֵהֶן, זָכָה בְּחֶמְדַּת כָּל הָעוֹלָם. זָכָה בְּחָכְמָה — זָכָה בַּכֹּל; זָכָה בִּגְבוּרָה — זָכָה בַּכֹּל; זָכָה בְּעֹשֶׁר — זָכָה בַּכֹּל. אֵימָתַי? בִּזְמַן שֶׁהֵן מַתְּנוֹת שָׁמַיִם וּבָאוֹת עַל יְדֵי הַתּוֹרָה. אֲבָל בְּנֵי גָד וּבְנֵי רְאוּבֵן, שֶׁהָיוּ עֲשִׁירִים וְהָיָה לָהֶם מִקְנֶה רַב, אָהֲבוּ אֶת מָמוֹנָם וְיָשְׁבוּ לָהֶם חוּץ לָאָרֶץ — לְפִיכָךְ גָּלוּ תְּחִלָּה מִכָּל הַשְּׁבָטִים.
