מֵאֵת הַמִּדְיָנִים. וְהַלֹּא מוֹאָבִים הָיוּ תְּחִלָּה לְדָבָר, אֶלָּא שֶׁעָשׂוּ שָׁלוֹם עִם מִדְיָן לְהִלָּחֵם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל; וְלָמָּה נֶאֱמַר מִדְיָנִים — שֶׁהָיוּ מִתְדַּיְּנִים עִם יִשְׂרָאֵל. (סִפְרֵי)
