English: R. Yishmael b. R. Yose expounded: “If a man dies and has no son, you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter” — in the place of a daughter you transfer inheritance from the father, but you do not transfer inheritance from the father in the place of brothers.

Limits of the “transfer” language.

What Is Learned

The special verb “ha’avarah” applies when the daughter takes what would otherwise stay with the father/paternal line differently than brothers do.
