Whoever touches a dead body, the body of a human being who dies, and does not purify himself, defiles the Mishkan of the Lord, and that person shall be cut off from Yisrael; because the water of sprinkling was not thrown upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is still upon him.
Torah Temimah: Sifrei — Elsewhere it says (Parashas Metzora) “and they shall not die in their impurity when they defile My Mishkan,” to tell you that this is death and this is kares; this is kares and this is death.
English: To tell you that this is death and this is kares; this is kares and this is death.
Equivalence of the expressions “death” and “kares.”
The penalty of kares for entering the sanctuary while impure from a corpse is identical to the “death” spoken of in the parallel verse.
