… וְא֥וֹן בֶּן־פֶּ֖לֶת בְּנֵ֥י רְאוּבֵֽן׃

…and On the son of Peles, sons of Reuven.

Core Text

אוֹן בֶּן פֶּלֶת — שֶׁיָּשַׁב בַּאֲנִינוּת כׇּל יָמָיו; וּבֶן פֶּלֶת — בֵּן שֶׁנַּעֲשׂוּ לוֹ פְּלָאוֹת.

English: On son of Peles — that he sat in mourning all his days; and son of Peles — a son for whom wonders were done.

The one partner who escaped.

On is mentioned at the start and never again — tradition credits his wife’s counsel for withdrawing him from the quarrel.
