Hashem, slow to anger and abundant in kindness, bearing iniquity and transgression, and clearing — He does not clear; visiting the iniquity of fathers upon children, upon the third and upon the fourth.

Core Text

English: Slow to anger — toward the righteous and toward the wicked. Clears — those who repent; does not clear — those who do not repent.

Type of Learning

Thirteen Attributes in Moshe’s plea.

What Is Learned

TT silent; Moshe invokes the Attributes revealed after the calf — and Rashi’s midrash shows he had once argued they should apply only to the righteous, and now needs them for the spies’ generation.
