And what of the land: is it fat or lean? Are there trees in it or not? You shall strengthen yourselves and take of the fruit of the land. Now the days were the days of the first grapes.
Torah Temimah on היש בה עץ: Bava Basra 15a — Iyov in the days of the spies.
Sefaria — Bava Basra 15a · E-Daf — Bava Basra 15a
English: Rava said: Iyov lived in the days of the spies — it is written here “a man was in the land of Utz, Iyov was his name,” and there “is there a tree in it.” … Thus Moshe said to Israel: Is there that man whose years are long as a tree, and who shields his generation as a tree.
Gezeirah shavah / word-play — עץ / עוץ links the land question to Iyov.
Moshe’s “is there a tree” is read as asking whether a righteous protector like Iyov was still in the land.
