Torah Temimah: “האיש ההוא” excludes a minor from kares.

Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “And the man who is tahor… that man shall bear his sin” — to exclude a minor from kares.

Type of Learning

Exclusion of the minor — even though a minor who matures may be obligated in the second, he is not in the kares net for the first.

What Is Learned

Punishment tracks adult capacity; the verse’s “ish” keeps the minor outside the penalty.
