Parashas Bechukosai · Passuk context
When I break your staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in a single oven; they shall deliver your bread by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.
Sifra, Bechukotai, Chapter 6:2 (Rashi) — scarcity of wood; crumbly grain weighed at the oven; a curse that acts even on bread already eaten.
English: “When I break your staff of bread” — every support of food. “Ten women… in one oven” — for lack of wood. “They shall deliver your bread by weight” — the wheat rots and the loaf crumbles, so they sit and weigh the pieces. “You shall eat and not be satisfied” — a special curse that takes effect on the bread already in the stomach.
Amplification of famine — sevenfold detail within one verse.
Famine here is not only empty fields. It is the collapse of the entire food system: fuel, grain quality, portioning, and even the body’s ability to draw satiety from what is swallowed.
