וְעַבְדְּךָ֥ וַאֲמָתְךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִהְיוּ־לָ֑ךְ מֵאֵ֣ת הַגּוֹיִ֗ם אֲשֶׁר֙ סְבִיבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם מֵהֶ֥ם תִּקְנ֖וּ עֶ֥בֶד וְאָמָֽה׃

Core Text — Sifra

מֵאֵת הַגּוֹיִם אֲשֶׁר סְבִיבֹתֵיכֶם. מְלַמֵּד שֶׁקּוֹנִין עֲבָדִים מִן הַגּוֹיִם.

English: “From the nations that are around you.” This teaches that one may acquire slaves from the surrounding nations.

Permanent Canaanite slaves may be acquired from the surrounding nations (as distinct from the temporary eved ivri).
