Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Moed Katan 3a

English: “And your vineyard you shall not prune.” Since pruning is included in sowing and grape-harvesting is included in reaping, for what purpose did the Merciful One write them? To teach that for these Toldos (derivative labors) one is liable, but for other derivative labors one is not liable.

Type of Learning

Classical derasha (Bavli Moed Katan) — specification of Toldos.

What Is Learned

Although pruning is included in the general category of sowing and grape-harvesting in reaping, the Torah writes them separately to teach that one is liable specifically for these Toldos but not for other derivative labors of the same categories.
