מִחוּץ לְפָרֹכֶת הָעֵדוּת – וְכִי לְאוֹרָהּ הוּא צָרִיךְ? וְהַלֹּא כָּל אַרְבָּעִים שָׁנָה שֶׁהָלְכוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּמִּדְבָּר לֹא הָלְכוּ אֶלָּא לְאוֹרוֹ; אֶלָּא עֵדוּת הִיא לְבָאֵי עוֹלָם שֶׁהַשְּׁכִינָה שׁוֹרָה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל. (שַׁבָּת כ״ב ב׳)
