English: R’ Shimon says the father precedes the mother everywhere — might that mean the father’s honor precedes the mother’s? Scripture says “his mother and his father you shall fear,” teaching that both are equal.
Equal weight of father and mother in mora
From the Torah both parents are equal in mora. Chazal still give practical priority to the father because the mother herself is obligated in the father’s honor; if divorced, they are fully equal.
