Core Text

Core Text — Rashi on 16:24 / Yoma 32a

English: Above we learned that when he changes from golden garments to white garments he requires immersion; here we learn that when he changes from white garments to golden garments he likewise requires immersion.

Type of Learning

Symmetric tevilah at every garment change

What Is Learned

Every transition between the white (inner) service and the golden (outer) service on Yom Kippur is marked by immersion. The five immersions of the day are thus structurally required by the garment changes themselves.
