וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה דַּבֵּר֮ אֶל־אַהֲרֹ֣ן אָחִ֒יךָ֒ וְאַל־יָבֹ֤א בְכׇל־עֵת֙ אֶל־הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ מִבֵּ֖ית לַפָּרֹ֑כֶת אֶל־פְּנֵ֨י הַכַּפֹּ֜רֶת אֲשֶׁ֤ר עַל־הָאָרֹן֙ וְלֹ֣א יָמ֔וּת כִּ֚י בֶּֽעָנָ֔ן אֵרָאֶ֖ה עַל־הַכַּפֹּֽרֶת׃

רַבִּי אֱלִיעֶזֶר אוֹמֵר: וְלֹא יָמוּת — עֹנֶשׁ; כִּי בֶּעָנָן אֵרָאֶה — אַזְהָרָה. יָכוֹל שְׁנֵיהֶם אֲמוּרִים קֹדֶם מִיתַת בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן, תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר אַחֲרֵי מוֹת שְׁנֵי בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן.
English: R’ Eliezer: “he shall not die” is the punishment; “for in a cloud I will appear” is the warning. One might think both were stated before their death; therefore Scripture says “after the death of the two sons of Aharon.”
