וְכָל־הַמֶּרְכָּ֗ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִרְכַּ֥ב עָלָ֛יו הַזָּ֖ב יִטְמָֽא׃

וְכָל הַמֶּרְכָּב — יָכוֹל אֲפִלּוּ רָכַב עַל הַמִּשְׁכָּב וְעַל הַמּוֹשָׁב? תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר מֶרְכָּב, וְלֹא מִשְׁכָּב וּמוֹשָׁב.

English: “And every riding-saddle” — one might think even if he rode on a bed or a seat; Scripture teaches “riding-saddle,” and not bed and seat.

Merchav distinct from bed/seat

Chazal treat merchav as its own category and do not automatically fold ordinary bed and seat into the riding verse.
