וּבָא֙ אֲשֶׁר־ל֣וֹ הַבַּ֔יִת וְהִגִּ֥יד לַכֹּהֵ֖ן לֵאמֹ֑ר כְּנֶ֕גַע נִרְאָ֥ה לִ֖י בַּבָּֽיִת׃

Core Text

כְּנֶגַע נִרְאָה לִי — לִי וְלֹא לְאוֹרִי, מְלַמֵּד שֶׁאֵין רוֹאִין אֶת הַנְּגָעִים בַּלַּיְלָה.

English: “Something like a nega has appeared to me” — “to me” and not “to my light”; this teaches that negaim are not examined at night.

Chazal prohibit the examination of negaim by artificial light or at night; the inspection must occur by natural daylight.
