Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “His head and his beard” — since it is written of the nazir “a razor shall not pass over his head” and of the kohanim “they shall not shave the corners of their beard,” one might think a nazir or kohen who is a metzora is still forbidden; therefore the verse says “his head and his beard.”

Type of Learning

Override of nazir and kohen restrictions

What Is Learned

Chazal teach that a nazir or kohen who is a metzora must nevertheless shave the head and beard as required for purification.
