וְצִוָּה֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְלָקַ֧ח לַמִּטַּהֵ֛ר שְׁתֵּֽי־צִפֳּרִ֥ים חַיּ֖וֹת טְהֹר֑וֹת וְעֵ֣ץ אֶ֔רֶז וּשְׁנִ֥י תוֹלַ֖עַת וְאֵזֹֽב׃

חַיּוֹת טְהוֹרוֹת — חַיּוֹת פְּרָט לִטְרֵפוֹת, טְהוֹרוֹת פְּרָט לְעוֹף טָמֵא.

English: “Live pure [birds]” — “live” excludes terefos; “pure” excludes non-kosher birds.

Mi’ut from “chayos tehoros”

Chazal exclude both non-kosher species and birds that are terefah from the pair used for the metzora.
