מַדּ֗וּעַ לֹֽא־אֲכַלְתֶּ֤ם אֶת־הַֽחַטָּאת֙ בִּמְק֣וֹם הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ כִּ֛י קֹ֥דֶשׁ קָֽדָשִׁ֖ים הִ֑וא וְאֹתָ֣הּ נָתַ֣ן לָכֶ֗ם לָשֵׂאת֙ אֶת־עֲוֹ֣ן הָֽעֵדָ֔ה לְכַפֵּ֥ר עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם לִפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָֽה:

English: “Why did you not eat”: Moshe considered several possible reasons: perhaps its blood had entered the innermost sanctuary, perhaps the offering had left its permitted area, or perhaps it had been offered in mourning and thereby invalidated. Aharon explained that he himself had offered it, and Moshe accepted the explanation.

Core Textמַדּוּעַ לֹא אֲכַלְתֶּם וְגוֹ׳. אָמַר לוֹ: שֶׁמָּא נִכְנַס דָּמָהּ לִפְנַי וְלִפְנִים? אָמַר לוֹ: הֵן, לֹא הוּבָא אֶת דָּמָהּ אֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ פְּנִימָה. שֶׁמָּא חוּץ לִמְחִיצָתָהּ יָצְאָה? אָמַר לוֹ: הֵן, בַּקֹּדֶשׁ הָיְתָה. שֶׁמָּא בְּאָנִינוּת הִקְרִיבוּהָ וּפְסָלוּהָ? אָמַר לוֹ: וְכִי הֵם הִקְרִיבוּהָ? אֲנִי הִקְרַבְתִּיהָ. אָמַר לוֹ מֹשֶׁה: אִם כֵּן, מַדּוּעַ לֹא אֲכַלְתֶּם כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוֵּיתִי בְּאָנִינוּת יֹאכְלוּהָ? וַיִּשְׁמַע מֹשֶׁה וַיִּיטַב בְּעֵינָיו.
