Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: Aaron was rewarded for his silence by receiving a Divine communication addressed to him alone, concerning the prohibition of entering the service while intoxicated.

Type of Learning

Reward for restraint — The source interprets the verse through its wording and context.

What Is Learned

Rashi connects Aharon's silence after the deaths of his sons with the immediately following direct divine address. The wine prohibition is addressed to Aharon alone, rather than to Moshe and Aharon together, and Rashi presents that direct address as the reward for Aharon's silence.
