Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “And the lobe of the liver over the liver.” The wording leaves it uncertain whether the liver is taken with the lobe or the lobe with the liver. When the Torah later says “the lobe of the liver,” it resolves the ambiguity: some of the liver is taken with the lobe.

Type of Learning

Textual distinction — a later wording of the same offering clarifies the meaning of the earlier phrase.

What Is Learned

The wording establishes that a small portion of the liver is taken with the lobe of the liver.
