Core Text of Chazal

Core Text of Chazal

English: Rabbi Yehudah ben Pazi in Rabbi’s name contrasts the voluntary giving for the Mishkan with the people’s giving for the golden calf: “every generous-hearted person” is for good, while “all the people stripped themselves” is for evil.

Type of Learning

Derash by comparing the wording of the Mishkan donations with the golden-calf narrative.

What Is Learned

The Torah distinguishes the generous-hearted minority who donated to the Mishkan from the collective participation in the golden calf.
